This wine was made from a select parcel of the 1998 planted MV6 clone from the Maddens Rise vineyard. Crop thinning ensured optimum quality, flavour & character development. The wine is deeply coloured with a luscious burgundy hue. The nose is rich and earthy showing aromas of rosemary, dark cocoa and charcuterie.
There is beautiful structure on the palate from whole bunch fermentation processing, yet the mouth feel is elegant and refined. Well-balanced red fruits of blood plum and soft raspberry contribute to a lovely lingering savoury finish.
This wine was wild fermented in a small open fermenter before maturation in new French oak for eight months. It underwent a malolactic fermentation before being bottled without fining or filtration.
